My five-year-old daughter wouldn’t let her hair get cut, insisting, “I want my real dad to recognize me when he comes back.”

I’m Edward, and this is about my daughter, Lily. She’s five, full of energy, and the light of our lives. Recently, she started refusing to cut her hair, saying she wanted it long for her “real daddy.” Sara, my wife, and I were confused until we learned that Lily’s grandmother, Carol, had told her that I wasn’t her real dad.

Carol said Lily needed to keep her hair long so I’d recognize her when “her real daddy” returned.

Sara and I were devastated. We confronted Carol, and she downplayed the situation, claiming it was just a story. But when she made a hurtful comment about Sara’s past, we decided to cut ties with her. We assured Lily that I am her real dad and that no one was mad at her.

A few days later, we managed to get back to normal. Lily even started letting Sara braid her hair again. As for Carol, we’ve decided to go no-contact to protect Lily and her well-being. Our priority is keeping our daughter happy and safe.
