Father of 28-year-old pilot killed in D.C. crash speaks out
After the tragic midair collision on January 29, which killed 60 passengers and four crew members on American Airlines Flight 5342, Timothy Lilley, the father of 28-year-old pilot Sam Lilley, shared his heartbreak on Facebook. Sam, who had been a pilot for PSA Airlines, died in the crash alongside another pilot. Timothy, who was in New York at the time, hadn’t realized his son was on the flight until he couldn’t reach him.
In his emotional post, Timothy expressed his grief, saying, “It hurts so bad I can’t even cry myself to sleep.” He also shared how proud he was of Sam’s career and personal life, as Sam was engaged to be married. Timothy, a former military helicopter pilot, believes the Army Black Hawk pilot made a grave error by turning into the path of the plane, which he believes caused the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident, and many have shared their condolences with the grieving family. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy.
