Caren Marsh Doll: A Life on Stage and Screen
Caren Marsh Doll (born Caren Morris on April 6, 1919) was a talented dancer and actress during Hollywood’s Golden Age. She trained in modern and tap dance, which became her signature. In 1937, she began working for MGM, where she had small roles and worked as a stand-in for Judy Garland, notably on The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Ziegfeld Girl (1941). Her behind-the-scenes work on The Wizard of Oz helped shape the film’s iconic visuals.
Although she appeared uncredited in films like Gone with the Wind (1939), Caren’s contributions were significant, particularly in dance and choreography. In 1948, she shifted focus to teaching dance, becoming a respected instructor. Caren’s career remains an important link to Hollywood’s Golden Age, with her legacy preserved in the technical artistry of films she helped bring to life.
