If you find ticks inside your home, here’s what you should know

I’m generally tolerant of most creatures, including spiders and snakes, but ticks? Not so much. These pests can carry dangerous diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, making them a serious concern. If you encounter a tick, here’s what to do:

  1. Identify the Tick: Determine the type (black-legged, dog, or brown dog tick) and isolate the affected area.
  2. Protective Measures: Wear gloves and long sleeves to avoid direct contact.
  3. Clean Thoroughly: Wash any clothing or bedding the tick may have touched on high heat, and vacuum the area.
  4. Tick Removal: Use fine-tipped tweezers to remove the tick, pulling gently without twisting. Clean the bite area afterward with alcohol or soap and water.
  5. Monitor the Bite: Keep an eye on the bite site and watch for symptoms.

Ticks are a serious concern, so it’s important to act swiftly if you find one!
