Beandri Booysen: Girl in South Africa with progeria dies

Beandri Booysen, a beacon of resilience and positivity, passed away at just 19 years old, just days before Christmas. Born in South Africa, Beandri was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome at just seven months old—a rare genetic condition that causes rapid aging. Doctors initially didn’t expect her to survive beyond her early teens, but Beandri defied the odds.

Despite her physical challenges, Beandri lived life to the fullest. She attended school, dreamed of becoming a teacher, and shared her journey with nearly 300,000 followers on TikTok, where she posted motivational videos and educated others about progeria. Her motto, “Be yourself. Love yourself. Believe in yourself,” resonated worldwide.

After celebrating her 19th birthday, Beandri’s health took a sudden turn, and she passed away on December 18. Her mother, Bea, shared the heartbreaking news, describing Beandri as a “vibrant personality” and a symbol of awareness for progeria. Tributes poured in on social media, with many expressing their sorrow and admiration for her life.

Though Beandri’s time was short, she taught us to live fully, love fiercely, and appreciate every moment. Her spirit will continue to inspire and shine through the countless lives she touched.
