Carol Burnett Says Not ‘a Moment Goes by’ When She’s Not Thinking of Her Daughter Carrie Who Died 21 Years Ago
Carol Burnett will celebrate her 90th birthday later this month, marking a life filled with career triumphs and personal heartache. One of her greatest losses was the death of her daughter, Carrie Hamilton, in 2002. Carrie, an actress who starred in Fame and co-wrote the play Hollywood Arms with Burnett, struggled with addiction and was diagnosed with cancer in 2002. She passed away at age 38.
Burnett reflects on her daughter’s strength, recalling how Carrie remained cheerful even during her illness. “Every day I wake up and decide,” Carrie told Burnett, a message that Burnett now carries with her daily.
Burnett, a six-time Golden Globe winner, has come to appreciate life’s fragility. “You don’t know. Life can change on a dime,” she says. “So just be grateful for today and what you have.”
