Liam Neeson, 72, opens up on retirement from action movies
Over his nearly 50-year career, Liam Neeson has portrayed a wide range of characters, from a Jedi Master to a vengeful father in the Taken franchise, which established him as an iconic action star. At 72, Neeson has hinted at retirement, stating, “It has to stop at some stage.”
Neeson gained fame in the early 1990s with his role in Schindler’s List, and his shift to action films began with Taken in 2008. His portrayal of Bryan Mills, a retired CIA operative on a mission to rescue his daughter, resonated deeply with audiences and spawned two sequels.
Despite his success, Neeson has acknowledged his age, saying, “I’m 72; it has to stop at some stage.” He has emphasized his commitment to performing his own stunts, thanks in part to longtime stunt coordinator Mark Vanselow, but he’s considering stepping back from action roles soon.
Interestingly, Neeson is preparing for a new phase in his career as he recently filmed a reboot of The Naked Gun, where he stars as Frank Drebin alongside Pamela Anderson. He expresses uncertainty about his comedy skills but has received praise from Anderson for their on-screen chemistry.
