Young woman with facial tattoos, piercings confronts TJ Maxx employees after she was denied a job
After being rejected for a job at TJ Maxx, 23-year-old Ash Putnam took to TikTok to express her frustration, sparking a viral discussion with over seven million views. She received an automated email denying her application and, upon visiting the store, was told she lacked experience compared to other candidates.
Putnam questioned whether her tattoos influenced the decision. Although the store employees denied it, she remained skeptical. She emphasized that having tattoos doesn’t reflect one’s work ethic or capabilities, pointing out that many intelligent individuals have body art.
Commenters on her video largely agreed that her tattoos might have played a role in her rejection. Some suggested that the location of her tattoos could be a factor, while others noted that TJ Maxx typically hires a wide range of applicants.
Putnam argued that companies need to reconsider their hiring practices, stating that tattoos and piercings should not determine a person’s qualifications. “It’s 2024; people need to get over not liking tattoos,” she said.
