Nicole Kidman leaves Venice Film Festival after mother’s death aged 83

Nicole Kidman left the 81st Venice International Film Festival abruptly due to the tragic passing of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman. While honored with the Volpi Cup for best actress for her film Babygirl, the award was accepted by director Halina Reijn, who revealed Kidman’s absence was due to her family emergency.

In a statement read by Reijn, Kidman expressed her shock and heartbreak, saying, “This award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me.” Kidman had previously shared that her mother was facing health issues and that their close relationship provided valuable insights into life.

Janelle Ann Kidman, who was 83, had often appeared with her daughter at public events. Kidman’s latest film, Babygirl, received a warm reception at the festival, earning a seven-minute standing ovation. Our thoughts are with Nicole during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Janelle Ann Kidman.
