Oscar winner Gene Hackman and wife found dead in Santa Fe home

Two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife, pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Wednesday afternoon. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza reported no signs of foul play but did not specify a cause of death.

Hackman, 95, and Arakawa had been married since 1991. Hackman, a Hollywood icon, retired quietly in the late 2000s after a legendary career spanning over 70 films. He won two Oscars: Best Actor for The French Connection and Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven. Hackman retired due to health concerns after a stress test revealed heart issues in 2009.

After retiring, Hackman focused on painting, fishing, and writing, which he found relaxing. He is survived by his three children from his previous marriage to Faye Maltese.
