Women ran from Vincent D’Onofrio after break-through role
Vincent D’Onofrio is best known for his iconic role as the overweight, dim-witted Marine recruit in Full Metal Jacket. The role required a significant physical transformation, where he gained 70-80 pounds, the most weight gained by any actor for a role. Despite his efforts, D’Onofrio faced challenges, including being treated differently by people due to his changed appearance. However, the role launched his career, leading to roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Daredevil, and films like Jurassic World.

Born in Brooklyn, D’Onofrio’s career started with stage acting and various side jobs. His big break came when he was encouraged by actor Matthew Modine to audition for Stanley Kubrick. D’Onofrio credits Kubrick for his success, which includes over 50 films.

In his personal life, D’Onofrio’s marriage to actress Greta Scacchi produced a daughter, Leila, and his 26-year marriage to Dutch model Carin van der Donk ended in divorce in 2023. D’Onofrio has two sons with van der Donk and continues to act, recently appearing in The Unforgivable and the upcoming Dumb Money. His transformative role in Full Metal Jacket remains one of his most memorable performances.
