Father who murdered 10-year-old daughter is attacked in prison
The murder of 10-year-old Sara Sharif shocked the world when her father, Urfan Sharif, confessed to killing her after a prolonged campaign of abuse. Sara was found with over 70 injuries, including burns, fractures, and a traumatic brain injury. Her father fled to Pakistan, along with his brother and stepmother, but they were later arrested and charged.
Urfan admitted in court that Sara’s death was his fault and received a life sentence with a minimum of 40 years. His stepmother, Beinash Batool, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 33 years, and his brother Faisal Malik received 16 years for allowing her death.
While in prison, Urfan became a target of fellow inmates who despise crimes against children. Within weeks of his life sentence, two prisoners ambushed him with a tuna can lid, injuring him severely. He survived but faces lasting scars. One of his attackers, Steve Sansom, is serving a life sentence for murder.
