Boy, 16, divides the internet with billowing ballgown, some say he’s ‘stunning’ others say ‘vile’
Sixteen-year-old Korben White made headlines when he wore a red skirt and sequined tuxedo top to his high school prom, inspired by actor Billy Porter and his own desire to express his feminine side. His mother, Nina Green, shared the moment on Twitter, proudly supporting her son’s choice, which garnered widespread praise as well as criticism. Korben, a “sassy” young drag queen named Miss Frou Frou, had expressed his wish to wear a gown to prom at age 12, and four years later, he made it happen.
While the outfit was celebrated by many, including Michelle Visage from RuPaul’s Drag Race, it also sparked backlash from those who disapproved of gender-nonconforming choices. Despite the negativity, Green remained steadfast in her support, emphasizing the importance of letting children express themselves authentically. The tweet also encouraged other parents and families to embrace and support their children’s identities.
Green hopes her story will inspire others to accept and celebrate their kids, noting that acceptance and love are key to helping young people thrive.
