Stephen Hawking said he had a simple answer when asked whether he believed in GOD
Stephen Hawking shared his views on God and the afterlife before his death, offering a scientific perspective. He believed there was no proof of a higher power, arguing that the universe could be explained by the laws of science, not by a divine creator. In an interview, he stated, “Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation.”
In his book The Grand Design, Hawking argued that the universe’s creation was due to the laws of physics, specifically gravity, and not a divine force. He wrote, “The universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing.”
On the afterlife, Hawking dismissed the idea, calling it wishful thinking. In his final book, Brief Answers to the Big Questions, he stated, “There’s probably no Heaven and no afterlife… There is no reliable evidence for it, and it flies in the face of everything we know in science.” While he believed in the absence of God and an afterlife, he also respected others’ freedom to believe differently.
