Husband watches as wife’s pulled from life support but then she turns and says “get me out of here”
Making the decision to take a loved one off life support is a heart-wrenching choice, and Ryan Finley faced this unimaginable dilemma when his wife, Jill, fell into a coma. After finding her unresponsive and performing CPR, Ryan rushed Jill to the hospital where she was placed in a cooling suit to protect her brain. Despite the efforts, Jill’s condition worsened, and doctors told Ryan her chances were slim. He was advised to consider life support withdrawal.
Ryan wrote in his diary: “Today could be the worst day of my life. I essentially have to decide whether or not she will die.” After saying their goodbyes, something miraculous happened. When the machines were turned off, Jill mumbled to Ryan, asking to go to one of her favorite restaurants. In disbelief, Ryan knew she would make it—and he was right. Jill began breathing on her own, later undergoing heart surgery and rehab.
Though Jill didn’t remember much of her coma, she’s grateful for the second chance at life. The couple now cherishes every moment, with Jill saying, “We cherish each day, each minute, each hour now.” Their story is a testament to hope, love, and resilience.
