The Saga of My Mom, My Husband, and Rent

Family dynamics can be a whirlwind of emotions, especially after the recent passing of my father. My mother is feeling lonely, so I suggested she move in with us to be closer to her grandchildren and receive family support.
Initially, my husband refused but eventually agreed—on one condition: my mother would have to pay rent for living in our own home. He believes she shouldn’t take advantage of our resources, treating our home like a business rather than a family space. His reasoning stems from a long-standing tension between him and my mother.
While my husband isn’t a bad person, his insistence on charging rent reveals deeper issues. I feel caught between my mother’s need for support and my husband’s rigid stance. Now I face a dilemma: should I prioritize my mother’s needs or my husband’s feelings? What should I do?
