Vet gives puppy death sentence, reaches for needle – then boss takes look at her paws and shouts out
Putting a dog to sleep is a heartbreaking decision, but sometimes it’s the kindest choice when suffering is prolonged. Starfish, a puppy found in a box with severely bent legs, faced this fate. Rushed to a vet, it seemed she would need to be euthanized due to her injuries.
Just before the procedure, the shelter’s head intervened, seeking a second opinion. The new vet diagnosed Starfish with “Swimmer Puppy Syndrome,” a condition she could overcome with the right care.
Adopted by Leigh Anne Gray and her family, Starfish quickly won their hearts. They helped her adjust and get her feet underneath her. With the shelter staff’s support, Starfish showed incredible determination and began to improve.
Within two months, she was standing and eventually running like a normal puppy. The family’s joy in her recovery was immense, and Starfish went from the brink of death to a happy, healthy life.
