Parents of 6 die in rip current while on first family vacation
A Pennsylvania couple, Brian Warter, 51, and Erica Wishart, 48, tragically lost their lives in a rip current while vacationing in Florida with their six children. On June 20, while swimming on Hutchinson Island, the couple struggled against the dangerous waters. Their teenage children attempted to save them but were unable to overcome the powerful current. Emergency services were called, but both parents were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Despite red flags warning of hazardous conditions, the family was excited about their trip, which was a significant milestone for them as they blended their families. Brian’s father, Larry Warter, shared their joy and reflected on the couple’s love.
The local community has rallied around the Warter family, offering support. A GoFundMe page in memory of Erica has raised over $60,000. Erica, a dedicated mother and teacher, was remembered fondly for her kindness and commitment to helping others.
The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of rip currents. The National Weather Service advises swimmers to stay calm, avoid swimming directly against a current, and always swim with a buddy.
